Helping to End Homlessness

DECATUR, Ill. (WICS) — Helping to end homelessness is the goal of a two-day conference in Decatur.
Representatives from non-profits, housing authorities, County and local government were present Tuesday to learn more about how to keep their area’s homeless numbers low.

Those in attendance also learned how to help others, such as landlords, be able to work with those who are underprivileged in order to keep more people off the streets.

“I know that homelessness really is a problem throughout every community and if you don’t see someone sleeping on the street, there’s probably someone Who is facing a housing crisis and who could quickly fall into homelessness,” Program Manager for HUD Nora Lilly said.

The conference will continue Wednesday morning and experts will share strategies and resources they believe will help end homelessness.
